Earl B. Payton, Pastor
Our Pastor
Pastor Earl Bernard Payton II is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. He was licensed and ordained at the Garrett Community Baptist Church, Norfolk VA, in July 1978. Pastor Payton attended both high school and college in Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from Norfolk State College (in 1978). He also obtained a Master of Divinity Degree in 1982 from Gordon – Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts. Pastor Payton proudly served as a United States Army chaplain (endorsed by the Progressive National Baptist Convention, PNBC) for over 22 years, retiring as a LTC.
As a chaplain, he pastored several of the Army’s largest and most dynamic congregations. Pastor Payton also served as Deputy Chaplain at the prestigious Arlington National Cemetery. He received numerous awards while serving in the Army to include the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and six Meritorious Service medals. His tours of duty with the Army ranged from Heidelberg, Germany to Fort Bliss, Texas.
Beginning on December 7, 2003 Pastor Payton answered the call of God to start the Sun City Christian Fellowship Baptist Church (SCCFBC) in El Paso, Texas. The church started with just 21 members; purchased a building (in its ninth month of existence) that housed its sanctuary, fellowship hall, administrative wing and class.
In April 2019 Sun City purchased a new property at 9135 Stahala Drive which is also the site for the Sun City Community Development Corporation (CDC), and the future site of the Sun City computer lab, and Child Develeopment Center.
Pastor Payton is married to the former Annie Mason, who is his anchor and his strongest source of support. They are the proud parents of Earl Bernard III, Jonathan Nathanael, and Laura Ellen.
